![]() Parallel to the number of countries and projects, the number of people who form AIDA, in the field and in Spain, the institutions, companies and individuals who have trusted the association and who have become part of our structure, has been growing. In this way, we have helped more than five million people during twenty-two years. That said, once we arrive in a country and get to know its reality, we try to accompany communities in their own development by launching actions to ensure that the children can be schooled, or that patients without resources have access to healthcare, if we see that it is necessary and that we are able do so. Many of the projects focus on productive development, that is to say, helping families to generate and enhance economic resources. ![]() The list of countries in which it worked grew year upon year, eventually reaching fourteen, spread around Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh), the Middle East (Lebanon and Syria), Africa (Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Morocco) and America (Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Haiti). In 2004, when it had to adapt its statutes to the new Associations Law, the Assembly of Members changed the original name, since the organization was already working in other regions of the world, becoming AIDA, Aid, Exchange and Development. It started to work that same year in Vietnam, with the support of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), supporting the development of rural communities, promoting cooperative work and developing aquaculture. We also have a Code of Humanitarian Ethics with the rules on which AIDA’s humanitarian intervention is based and, since 2020, an Equality Plan with which we want to influence the achievement of Equal Opportunities in our internal organization, transferring the day-to-day perspective already included in the formulation and implementation of projects.ĪIDA was founded in 1999 by a group of professionals committed to work against poverty in Asia under the name Ayuda, Intercambio y Desarrollo de Asia (Aid, Exchange and Development of Asia):ĭª. We also have a Code of Conduct that describes the basic rules and essential principles that every employee or volunteer of the AIDA team must take into account. The Spanish Interior Ministry declared it a Public Utility in 2004.ĪIDA is governed by its Statutes and subscribes to the Code of Conduct for Development NGOs, like all the organizations belonging to the Statewide Coordinator of NGDOs. Since then it has worked with communities, local public organizations and public and private local organizations in Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, Syria, Morocco, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay and Haiti. It gave me a moment of ‘Yeah, I’m so sorry, I can only imagine.AIDA Aid, Exchange and Development is a non-governmental development organization (NGDO) that works to improve the quality of life of the most disadvantaged populations in developing countries and convert Human Rights into a universal reality, carrying out cooperation projects and involving experts and professionals in development.ĪIDA was founded in November 1999. We were laughing, and she told me, ‘Ma’am, you have no idea how much I suffer from this.’. ![]() ![]() And it was funny, it ended in a positive way, because the woman, the receptionist, she’s Black and she said: ‘Oh, you’re Latina? Oh, I thought you were Black’. So I was really upset and I went downstairs and I spoke to the gym's receptionist and told them. I was like, ‘What did you call me? What?’ And she’s like: ‘Oh, you heard me. I said: ‘Excuse me, I’m using this, I'm still I’m not done but I will be done soon.’ And she said, ‘You can wait your turn, Consuela.’. And this white woman kind of like pushed me to the side. I was actively using a machine and I got off just for a few seconds to go back on. And it’s funny because at the gym at that time, that moment, there was like a news segment on the TV about Trump, and it was before he was elected president. And I will say a lot of that happened during the era of Trump. I have been discriminated against before.
